Format and layout are two important elements in professional writing. Well formatting letter always gives audiences strong sense of desire for reading and easy to understand the information. The main purpose of this letter is providing information to all the incoming international students, and students can use this letter as a checklist to prepare before they leave for Iowa State University. In the letter, it includes information of important date, I-20, health test, admission acceptance and on campus housing. It might be hard for international students to read and memorize the details for such load of information. Therefore, the author separates information into different paragraph. To do so, audience can easily locate the specific information that they curious about. Separating information into different paragraphs helps students to check their progress very convenience. Students just need to follow the instruction step by step that can save lots of valuable time.

The author uses red because red can easily draw readers’ attention, and let readers notice that these parts of information are important and useful. The location of contact information is also very important. People usually fold the letter after they read it, so put the contact information at the upper right corner on the first page can let the readers easily reach the content without open
