If granted a single do-over of any moment of my life, it would be the day that we unexpectedly lost a friend, brother, and a son. The anguish that relentlessly lingers around that day, at times, seem unbearable, and to re-do the moments preceding that nightmare would bring solace to both my life and the others that were affected.
Friday, September 13th, 2013 started off similar to every other day; my classmates and I walked the hallways, laughing, discussing weekend plans, taking "selfies", and making witticisms among one another. My friend, Lester Levine, exuberantly ran throughout the school as he always did, knowing precisely what to say to turn gloomy day into an ebullient one. Unknowingly, no one would have known to brace themselves for the night and following weeks to come; our lives, perpetually scotched. Despite numerous people, including myself, blaming themselves and contemplating feasible actions that could have ensured his safety that night, we were conscious of the fact he would never return. Nevertheless, as we all grieved and made plans for his resting, a sense of his spirit was always present. The following Monday, after the accident, our entire school participated in a dedication ceremony for Lester. Balloons with notes filled the air as we prayed for one another and his family as well. Outside of school, his closest friends gathered in fellowship as we comforted his family and remembered Lester.
In conclusion, although the pain will never cease, the lost of our friend has brought innumerable people together; the relationships and bonds formed were never imaginable. One do-over in life would be ample enough, I would relive the endmost moments with Lester on September 13th, 2013. I would inform him of the love everyone shared for him, and the tremendous impact it has made on all of our
