Serbia is the area I choose to review for this project. Belgrade is the capital city of Serbia, a country situated in the Eastern part of Europe and also part of the countries situated on the Balkan Peninsula and thus part of the countries that form the group called the Balkans. Serbia is an isolated country when it comes to bordering seas, instead it borders a lot of countries: Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Hungary. The absolute location is 44° 48' N, 20° 27' E. The rugged mountains, hills and valleys of the Dinaric Alps slice through Serbia west of the Morava River, while the toothy-edged Balkan Mountains form its natural borders with Bulgaria and Romania. Natural lakes in Serbia are rare as a result of the rugged terrain, and the ones that do exist -such as the glacial lake Palic- are mostly located in Vojvodina. Serbia's largest artificial lake, resulting from a hydroelectric dam, is Derdap located on the Danube. Significant rivers include the Danube, Drina, Lim, Morava, Sava and Tara. Serbia is also one of the richest European countries when it comes to natural parks, medieval castles and forts. One of the most famous forts is located in the center of Belgrade right alongside the Danube river, and it is crucial for both touristic and historical values for Belgrade. The name of this fortress is Kalemegdan also known as the Belgrade Fortress was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1979 and is protected by the Republic of Serbia.
