Sarah Koenig's Serial based upon the murder of Hae Min Lee and the investigation and legal proceedings that followed the murder. The primary suspect during the investigation, Adnan Syed, was eventually found guilty after a mistrial and has since spent his time in prison with an impeccable record. Both Adnan and Hae were outstanding students involved with various extracurricular activities and were generally considered friends, even after they broke up. Hae ended the year long relationship under what seemed to others as amicable terms. The primary motive the investigators presented was that the murder was simply a crime of passion.
It was a family dinner that my niece was at who was Hae's friend. They all knew that I was waiting for DNA to come back from the lab. The whole table went silent. I picked up the phone, No DNA found for Adnan or Don. But they found Jay's DNA on Haes body.
The Innocence Of Adnan Syed Adnan Syed was wrongfully convicted of a murder he did not do and there is no physical evidence he actually committed the murder. Some background on the case is that Hae Min Lee was Murdered in Baltimore in 1999 and was found several days after she went missing. The person who was convicted was Adnan Syed. The case had no physical evidence that he committed the murder but was arrested because he was the last known boyfriend. Also the case is going up to a retrial sometime later this year into next year.
However Jay is as much of a suspect as Adnan. Jay has lied multiple times and changes his story everytime he speaks to the police. For example, “They weren't super close, but they had mutual friends. Jay sold weed, and he and Adnan smoked together. The story Jay told police had problems, because it kept changing from telling to telling” (“The Alibi”).
The podcast Serial by Sarah Koenig is about a court case that began in 1999. The narrator introduces us to several people who were involved in the death of Hae Min Lee, a high school student from Baltimore. She tells the story week by week, explaining the tragedy and the court’s decision on their main suspect; Adnan Syed. There is a controversy against the case, if Adnan was innocent or guilty. After looking at the evidence given in the first 5 episodes, it’s hard to believe he committed the murder.
This is important because if Adnan was very late to track practice, then his teammates would have noticed and remembered that day, so why is Jay telling a story to make Adnan look even worse? Therefore, if Adnan’s case was filled with many lies, who could have been telling the actual truth about Adnan? I believe Adnan is innocent because the evidence used to determine the verdict isn't justly sufficient, minorities were unfairly targeted for crimes, and he's psychologically incapable of being considered a murderer.
Using the fact that Adnan led a 'dual life', he is easily found guilty since everyone already thinks of him as shady since they found out he did drugs. But anyone who knew Adnan, knew he wasn't shady. " He was like the community's golden child." , "He was an honor roll student, volunteer EMT. He was on the football team.
Some argue this because if there wasn’t an actual murder committed by Adnan, then Jay wouldn’t know these important details. However, this knowledge provided by Jay could just be proving that Jay is the murderer. For example, Jay claimed he refused to help dig the hole for Hae’s body, but then he claimed he did help dig the hole (Koenig, “Inconsistencies”). That is such a big detail that you would think is hard to forget or mess up. Well, he could have just been saving himself but he was already tied into the murder when he talked with the detectives.
Serial is a true-crime podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig. In this podcast, Koenig goes through the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, and whether Adnan Syed, Lee’s ex-boyfriend who was convicted of the crime, is guilty of Lee’s murder. As she narrates the podcast, Koenig presents evidence to support both views and offers her opinions as she navigates through the evidence. In the podcast, Koenig’s narration is clearly biased toward Adnan Syed’s innocence. In the podcast, Koenig shows a clear bias towards Adnan Syed’s innocence, as she did not accurately portray Asia McClain’s letters, did not fully evaluate the other potential suspects, did not objectively evaluate Jay Wilds’ witness statement, and had outside influence.
Adnan was innocent of committing the murder of Lee and wasn’t given a fair trial. There was evidence that would be enough to convict him ,but there were missing info needed that would’ve helped Adnan in his trail. Jay Wilds alibi establish that Hae was murdered at Best Buy with Adnan strangling and then inserting Hae that had her dead body. He said given Adnan phone and car to he called him to pick him up at best buy and when he got there Adnan ask for help trying to hide the body. They went on a joy ride to different places and brought Adnan to practice for
But, maybe someone else committed the crime and thought it would be perfect to frame it on Adnan. Jay and Adnan were never very close friends. They would just smoke weed together and Adnan would buy it from Jay. Jay had a girlfriend, Stephanie, who was Hae’s best friend. Hae found out that Jay was cheating of Stephanie with Jenn.
She states “A year after Adnan was arrested and the case came to trial, Jay walked up to the witness stand. There’s a moment when Adnan muttered something to him” (45). By Adnan calling Jay pathetic he showed that he couldn’t believe Jay would rat him out. This incident shows that Adnan is a liar and is mad at Jay for going to the police, showing that he is guilty. Even after controlling himself through the whole case he snapped when he saw the man that betrayed him.
If our judicial system still believes that someone is innocent until proven guilty, then Adnan has to be innocent, because they did not prove him
