A study conducted by Wilson and Seaman concluded most serial killers have similar childhoods where the parents are the main characters. Paragraph three of the article “ The Psychology of Serial Killers” states, “sometimes the child forms a fantasy world in his mind to escape from his present circumstances”. In the article “ serial killers” it states, “ the most consistent psychological feature among serial killers appears to be extreme antisocial behaviors”. They often spend a lot of time daydreaming about their crimes and planning them out in distinct detail. Their minds are often driven by fantasies or fake scenarios. These people are often anti-social, quiet, and smart, they don’t fit in with the rest, but they are always watching. Serial killers often feel like they are better than others. . This narcissistic trait can make them very manipulative and controlling. This allows them to hide in plain sight. These could be people you interact with every day. These people try to hide their psychotic traits by seeming normal, even charming. How can someone be attracted to a serial killer? The majority of the people who are attracted to killers share trauma or crave criminal behavior. Hybristophilia can be defined as “someone who is romantically attracted to criminal offenders”. Most people involved with serial killers have this paraphilia. These people feel like they can “change” or “fix” this person. However, these serial killers have mastered detachment, allowing them to commit their crime without the emotional baggage. Allowing them to move from one victim to the next. A serial killer picks their victims based on who they are physically attracted to. One of the most common ways to spot a serial killer is if the individual has a fascination with fire.
