I persuaded the audience that victims of sex trafficking should not be charged with prostitution with use of an individual’s emotional story with imagery, a form of pathos. My speech used Tonya’s story, a very emotional telling of horrific experiences of a young girl who was a victim of trafficking went through. According to my speech, I said, “She was only 15… he pressured her to have sex with a stranger for money for a straight 30 minutes before she eventually gave in to the pressure because of her dependence and trust in ‘Eddie’.” (Harrell) The story of Tonya’s was pathos because it used a lot of strong imagery of sad, devastating things. The use of sad images or stories is an example of what pathos is because it affects the audience’s emotions.
