This is a sculpture that consists of 17 bronze panels, three longhorns, pointed wire, and a Texas star that represent different aspects on the history of the trail. The sculptor Troy Kelley has added his own artist interpretation to this history, and has held to the facts of the trail as well. For me it was a unique piece because it was really tall with many panels, each having different stories to tell. The artist, Troy Kelley is a painter and sculptor in Salado, Texas.
Christine Lan Thi Nguyen is a practicing artist and currently a student studying at UC Berkeley to receive her B.A degree in Sociology and Practice of Arts. She is interested in collaging, drawing, painting and utilizing anything that she gets her hands on. On her free time, she loves to explore and spend time with her family, friends and love ones. Her works mostly consist of kois and she has recently been drawn to working on self-portraits and enjoys discovering the effect of colors, lines, mark making and how it interacts with a new medium. Her work was recently displayed at the Worth Ryder Art Gallery, located in Berkeley, California.
Courage is being brave and taking the risk of doing something. In the book Witness by Karen Hesse many citizens did not like African-Americans , Jews and Catholics. Leonora Sutter, a character in the book, is a 12-year-old who is African-American and everyday deals with many citizens not liking her because the color of her skin. Courage comes in many ways and Leonora keeping her head high and not paying attention to it is an example. There are many racist people in the town like the KKK.
Shaun Tan published Tales from outer suburbia in the year 2008. The book is a collection of short stories and poems which deals with the experiences of immigrants. Shaun Tan moved to Australia at a young age, and shares his immigrant experiences using his illustrations and writings. Shaun Tan portrays the issues and occurrences of an immigrant using symbolism and allegory. The immigrant experience and self identity in another country is portrayed throughout the book.
By standing up for what is right, even in the face of danger, these characters can overcome their guilt and inspire others to do the same. Evidence A3: In Act 2, Elizabeth Proctor demonstrates courage by refusing to lie and incriminate others to save her life. She values honesty and integrity over self-preservation, even though it means potentially facing execution.
A group of children sat huddled underneath the kitchen table of a small cottage in England trying to escape the Empty Child. He was known for turning anyone who couldn't escape him into mindless people with gas-masks covering their faces. The viewers of this Doctor Who episode wait in suspense to learn if the Empty Child will capture the children or not, just as authors use suspense to make the reader feel tense about a situation. Suspense is the excitement or tension that readers feel as they wait to find out if the conflict is resolved. "The Most Dangerous" by Richard Conell, "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe, "A Aound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury uses conflict, irony, and foreshadowing to create suspense in their short stories.
In the essay "The Way We Lie," Stephanie Ericsson explains a few of the many reasons why we lie, "We avoid confrontation, we spare people's feelings, we conveniently forget, we keep secrets" (1992, p. 159). We want to avoid a big argument or fight that might make matters worse. We lie to protect another from the truth because it might be unbearable. A lie can come out of our mouth without much thought.
Post 1 Micheal Tan’s article talks about his opinion of the film Zombading. He is not happy about the stereotypes in the film and the way Zombading provide a potential opportunity for the homophobia people to laugh at LGBT characters. To me, stereotypes are not a problem because the film is full of representations which are not stereotypes. Like Jigs. Even though I disagree with Tan on other parts of his argument, I do agree with his point that it is quite disturbing that the father took Remington’s curse, so that his son could live as a straight man again.
People wear fake identities because they believe they need to be above reproach and the best they can possibly be so everyone would look up to them and want to be like them. In this chapter, Aunt Alexandra has a few neighbors and friends over to her house to talk while having tea. It is something similar to a tea party. While at the tea party Scout tries to entertain the guests and usually makes all the guests laugh, but Aunt Alexandra seems to be uninterested in Scouts and her attempts to make everyone laugh, but instead gives her a look that says “I really wish you would stop,” . In Tim O'Brien's “Enemies” and “Friends”, O'Brien shows the effect the nature of war has on individuals and how war destroys and creates friendships. These two stories describe the relationship between two soldiers, Lee Strunk and Dave Jensen. In “Enemies”, friendship is broken over a fist fight about a stolen jackknife, which leaves Strunk with a broken nose and Jensen paranoid of whether or not Strunk’s revenge is coming. While in “Friends”, you see how the nature of war creates a bond of trust, even between people who first saw each other as enemies.
The interactions we have with one another and the way in which we perceive the world have great impacts on and reflect our self-worth. When encountering people it can be difficult to allow them into our world and to have them understand us on a deeper and emotional level and in many instances relationships may be of more impeding than supporting. Shaun Tan is a writer and illustrator; he is a Chinese national who lives in Australia. In his book, Tan writes a compilation of short abstract stories, all putting the reader through the experience of “the Other” and the hardships of being accepted and understood in society. The short story “The Water Buffalo” conveys a powerful allegory about youth, life indifference and our excursions through experiences both anticipated and unanticipated.
Many people have told lies and been told lies ,however the biggest lie of all is lying to oneself. Everyone has been told to share the truth because even though the truth will hurt others now, a carried out lie will hurt them a lot more in the future. It 's better to do right than to live in lies such as don 't hide all your faults they won 't just go away, you need to learn from your mistakes. In Les Miserables and The Kite Runner a man 's reputation is not as important as his family. As in giving up yourself for another and to be happy, like leaving your homeland where you are known and in charge to become a working man and make your family happy.
Each individual has their own values and initiative of a situation. However it is important that those values are clear and justifiable in order to show impeccable courage. Accessing the target goals and final outcome of the situation should always be taken into account, in order to achieve the correct and suitable care. As mentioned before honesty is a key aspect that collaborates with courage. Being honest provides strength to speak out and take action, stepping out of comfort zones, hurdling obstacles and taking risks (Kantor, 2015).
Courage is having the ability to act, despite fear, pain, or uncertainty. Courage does not suppress fear but allows one to continue in the face of fear. I made the decision, for example, to tell my parents about my sexuality. I am gay, and I knew the scrutiny I could face at home, and in society if I told my parents. Although fearful, I was courageous, and shared with them that I was going though.
