On Thursday, April 21, 2016 our guest speaker Becky Salinas came to speak in my Women and Criminal Justice Course in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by Professor Dr. Dorothy S McClellan.Becky .Salinas received her bachelor and master’s degree in Texas A&M University. Her current position is as a juvenile probation officer in the Nueces County Juvenile department. She has been in this positon for 21 years. She believes she is in the positon she is right now because she had always been a rule follower. She doesn’t like to break rules. She never did as a child and she still doesn’t, but she remembers that she will always do. Her great morals helped her get where she is now. She saw her mom and grandma struggling with this situation and of course her mom was not educated as well as her grandma, so they didn’t know how to deal with this situation. His other uncle was living the life a normal citizen will live .He was not working , Becky couldn’t verified , but she was sure that he was in drugs , because that’s how more than likely he was making his money. He was bonded out and he fled. For years the family though he was in Mexico. As time progress, three years later, her grandma receives a call letting her know that they believe he was murder in Chicago. During Becky childhood she will see this kind of struggle her family dealt with. There was a lot of crime in her mom’s side of her family and she became really interesting in those stuff. She became really interesting because she will go to court and she will hear stories on crime and juveniles. She was really impress how people go through that struggle and are affected by it, and she thought to herself I will never do that stuff and she never did. She never did pot, she did drink when she got older, drinking socially, but she never got into trouble, she never went into the juvenile department, and her brother almost did. Her brother was really angry as a child, he will take out his anger on his sister and herself because there was no father figure in the family, that was her life in Robstown, this is why she believes why she chose this career path .She wonder when she sits and hires people, why did you really decide criminal justice, because she knows why she
