After school sports can change the entire perspective of a student’s education. Although these recreational games have a negative impact on budgets; various studies have shown that scholars who are a part of a non scholastic athletic program perform better in class. Therefore, schools should keep extracurricular sports activities because they reduce stress levels, kids get an equal chance to become physically healthier, and competition teaches children positive life skills. Stress is very common among teenagers; however, it has been proven that physical activity helps relieve this anxiety. According to an article by Tim O’Shei, “When you’re stressed your brain releases hormones that can interfere with your ability to sleep and concentrate-not exactly a recipe for academic achievement” (12). O’Shei goes on the say that children who play sports have better focus, and think through their work more efficiently (12). This data clearly shows that while in sports programs, young scholars are exceeding in school and are likely to do better in class.These activities have a strong, positive impact on a student’s anxiety, allowing them to perform better in class, and at home. …show more content…

O’Shei quotes, “If we cut back school sports, some kids will find themseves shut out of sports completely,” (13). Club sports are still an option, but many families can’t afford that (O’Shei, 13).
