In conclusion I believe that college athletes deserve to be payed some more than others. I also believe
Should NCAA Football Players get Paid? Did you know that 85% of NCAA football players live below the poverty line? This is just one of the many problems about student athletes in the NCAA. College football players should be paid because they simply do not have enough time for a job between college and sports and these student athletes sacrifice their bodies for the love of the game.
“I remember when my coach was thrilled because he had negotiated in his contract with the school that even if he was no longer coaching, his children could still attend Villanova for free. This is a far cry from the multi-million dollar salaries for football and basketball coaches. Not to mention the salaries of athletics directors and conference commissioners,” said a NCAA athletes. If NCAA coaches get paid why shouldn’t athletes. Not saying athletes should get paid as much as their coaches.
The NCAA is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that just happens to be a billion-dollar industry, raking in $740 million per year from broadcasting rights for March Madness alone. The NCAA makes a lot of money off the players. The Players Put in alot of hardwork to try to win and they get payed nothing for it. Coaching These athletes is a very popular job around the USA. It's not fair that coaching is one of the best jobs and the players get payed nothing for doing more work.
"Over the last decade, the debate of whether or not college athletes should be paid has intensified, and many athletes, as well as coaches, have begun to advocate for the cause." (TIMES) Tyler Harnett, a writer at the Huffington Post, took his standpoint on the topic in the article "Why College Athletes Should be Paid," which clearly states his claim, college athletes should be paid. Personally, I disagree with Harnett's viewpoint and I don't believe college athletes should be paid due to education, funding, and overall fairness. To summarize Harnett's article, he starts by talking about his opponents and their viewpoints on the situation, "They are already getting a scholarship, don't be greedy."
College athletes should get paid to pay because they dedicate a lot of time to their teams, they do not have time for a job, the school receives a great amount of money from the games that they perform in, and a salary would help student-athletes learn how to
I strongly believe NCAA athletes should be paid for their contribution to the NCAA. These athletes are directly responsible for the generation of revenue for the NCAA and the Universities. Head coaches garner up to seven million dollars a year and the top-tier athletes currently receive $5,000. There 's no arguing that the players contribute more to a team than the head coach. If athletes were paid more, the likelihood that more athletes would achieve their four years of eligibility with the NCAA would be higher.
Honestly they should get paid because it's them working hard for each game trying to win every time giving it their best effort. First of all without college athletes the NCAA is nonexistent. Although the NCAA is a non profit association they still give a large amount of money to successful coaches. Last year the NCAA men's basketball tournament made 1.15 million dollars in ad revenue.(1)
While coaches just stand and yell for millions of dollars, athletes are risking their bodies for entertainment. This article “Should College Athletes be Paid?”, was written by Josslyn Howard to see if college athletes are getting what they deserve. She says, “NCAA president Mark Emmert rolled in $1.9 million in 2014, yet the students that are generating that revenue are not making a dime” (Howard). If the college athletes get paid, they will not have to worry about getting hurt in a game. If an athlete gets a career ending injury, they will have at least a little bit of money to support themselves.
Oh no! I'm trapped in da snow globe! Name: Ava Covarrubias
Such as coach K the head coach of the Duke basketball team, he makes more money than an average NBA coach. Also athletes directors can make up to $500,000. College coaches are getting overpaid, an average
The NCAA is a huge organization that includes hundreds and thousands of players, coaches, and staff. All of which play key parts in keeping in the organization running smoothly and efficiently. The players, coaches, and staff all are taking risks whether it is emotional or physical when they go to fulfill their obligations to their own respective universities. Coaches and other staff members receive a payment for they do however; the players do not receive payment for what they do. The NCAA has been in the “hot seat” when it comes to taking care of its players.
In an article written by Kiran Misner, “Paying College Athletes”, published by The Campanile in December 7, 2016, “College is a place for learning, growing as a person, trying out new experiences and meeting new people. One thing college should not be, however, is a professional work environment.” Athletes’ main priority should be their school work. While, sadly, in many cases this in not the truth, especially in higher income/division sports. Adding the element of salary on top of this will give coaches and players yet another reason to focus solely on their athletics, throwing away the education that they need.
College athletes deserve to be paid because they are the only ones not being paid in the college sports industry. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) generates eleven billion dollars annually, some of which could, and should go to college athletes. “USA Today reported last year just how much money the top 10 coaches in college football made. Nick Saban from Alabama topped the list earning roughly $5.5 million in 2013 alone” (Seibold). The coaches are making millions of dollars and the players aren’t.
College athletes already get their education free why should they get paid for playing a sport they love playing. What do you think, should college athletes get paid for playing the sport there in? Well I don’t think so and in this paper I will tell you and give you reasons why they shouldn’t be paid. College athletes are already getting a free education they shouldn’t be allowed to be paid. My topic is why college athletes shouldn’t get paid.
