While coaches just stand and yell for millions of dollars, athletes are risking their bodies for entertainment. This article “Should College Athletes be Paid?”, was written by Josslyn Howard to see if college athletes are getting what they deserve. She says, “NCAA president Mark Emmert rolled in $1.9 million in 2014, yet the students that are generating that revenue are not making a dime” (Howard). If the college athletes get paid, they will not have to worry about getting hurt in a game. If an athlete gets a career ending injury, they will have at least a little bit of money to support themselves. The article, “FBS ADs form PAC to lobby congress, possibly to prevent playing players” is saying that they do not need to be paid because they are getting a free scholarship for school. The FBS is the Football Bowl Subdivision, which is the controlling group over the college bowl games, and leaders in that group are trying to influence Congress with money to keep college athletes not paid.He says, “FBS athletic directors have formed a political action committee to influence the federal government and some believe the PAC will try to prevent college athletes from being paid” (Jennings). This quote is saying that college athletes are not getting paid because they are already getting a free scholarship for school, and athletic directors do not want to pay them. However, college athletes go to school all day, have classes, homework, practices, and games, so they do not have time to work for money for their necessities. The article, “College Athletes Should be Paid”, was written by Raman Mama and it says that they should get paid because they do not have time to work. He says, “The challenge that most college athletes face is that unlike most students, it is nearly impossible for them to have a job during the school year. The balance between school, sports, a personal life, and a job would be to much to handle. So, many athletes can only work jobs during the summer if they’re not competing” (Mama). The quote is saying that they do not have time to work for money because of the things happening in their life.
