Analysis: Why College Athletes Should Not Be Paid

College athletics is a billion dollar industry and has been for a long time. Due to the increasing ratings of college athletics, this figure will continue to rise. Stronger, faster, bigger athletes will generate more money. College universities generate so much revenue during the year that it is only fair to the players that they get a cut. Some people argue that college athletes have no time to work and therefore should be paid, while others contend that college athletes already receive compensation by not having to pay for college tuition. Athletes put in so much time and effort and generate huge amounts of money that it is only right to grant them pay.

When playing college sports there's usually no time in between to have a job because the athletes are either practicing, exercising or at school. With football and basketball being more of the dominant sports and making the most money, how much would athletes get paid and would it put the NCAA into debt. The NCAA generates nearly 11 billion dollars in revenue from college sports. That's more than the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League (sports money). The average salary for a NCAA coach is about 1 million dollars (sports money). University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban's contract in 2016 pays him over 7 million dollars a year. If it is so easy to pay a coach seven plus million dollars a year to boss athletes around, it should be easy to pay a player that has a big reason as to why coaches are getting paid a lot. If players are the ones going to school, missing classes for sports spending countless of hours in the weight room and risking the possibility of an injury,why shouldn't they get
