Paying college athletes would not be beneficial at all for the players, programs, and schools. College athletics is one of the most exciting sport spectacles in the country. According to businessinsider.com, 231 NCAA division 1 schools brought in 9.15 billion dollars in revenue in 2015. It is obvious that college sports are extremely popular. But they are not popular because of the handful of stars in the whole NCAA. they are popular because of how different people from all around the country are able to connect through that particular school. Primarily, these colleges often make poor economic decisions in an attempt to try and bring in more money for the school. According to listland.com, Rutgers University in New Jersey purchased an expansion of their football stadium for about 106 million dollars. This was done in an attempt to bring in more money for the school. The athletic department at the school ended up in the hole by 36 million dollars. Another factor is the coach's salary. The highest paid college football coach right now is Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan 9 million dollars a year. The third factor is that college athletes are already basically paid with scholarships. The top athletes in the country always get showered with college offers and never have to pay a dime in tuition.
