Although some schools say that supplying healthier lunches is too costly, schools should continue to give students healthy lunch options. Healthy lunches could keep kids focused in class, reduce childhood obesity, and set them on the right track for the future. Healthy lunches could potentially keep kids more focused in the classroom.. A nationwide study performed by Campbellsville University in the school year 2012-2013 over 30 million kids participated in the school lunch program, which in turn means that 30 million kids will be active in class and have the ability to thrive in school. According to an article titled 5 reasons why all schools should be healthy stated “Healthy meals enables students to focus and maximize their potential. Healthy food equal better health, better grades, better behavior, and better performance. Even though some might argue that young kids are naturally hyper during school, which could be true, if schools decrease the amount of artificial sugars in junk food that are offered, their could be a drastic decrease in the amount of stored energy due to unhealthy foods. According to Childhood Obesity Facts, offering lunches with more fruits, vegetables, and serving less with sugar and solid fats is a step we can take in order to reduce the rate in childhood obesity. Data from a 2015-2016 study shows that about 1 in 5 children (6-19) are classified as obese, which means they are in the 95th percentile of the average BMI for children that age. Some might say that children are active and will get enough exercise, but if schools do not offer recess and students don’t choose to go and exercise, then unfortunately they might not get the recommended amount to live a healthy, strong
