We Should Not Get Rid of School Electives
What class do you look forward to everyday? Is it a class that you are required to take or a class you made the choice to take? Some of you probably selected an elective like the tech rotations, band, choir, or Spanish. Do you enjoy the contrast between the elective classes and the core classes? Imagine your day without these classes. I believe that schools should not get rid of their electives.
First of all, schools electives improve student’s grade point averages. Individuals who take these classes tend to achieve superior grades in ALL of their classes, resulting in a higher GPA. The students that decide to take an elective for one of their classes enjoy the freedom in the class, a chance to experience something new, …show more content…

While at these elective, teens are able to meet new people, make new friends, and have a positive relationship with coaches, teachers, and many more adults or staff members. Choosing an elective class also gives students a “break” from typical classroom learning. They will have an opportunity to improve their problem-solving skills and many more lifelong skills necessary for long term success.
Most importantly, the students will have a well-rounded application for college. Colleges don’t just look at a students GPA anymore, but for a student who is well-rounded, willing to learn, and willing to try new things. These are all benefits that electives offer to the students that elect to take them to step out of their comfort zone and explore new things.
Other examples for some students opting not to take electives are as follows. Some students think that selecting an elective class is a waste of time, time that they could spend on other “more important” school work.
