Should Professional Athletes Be Paid?

In today’s society, entertainers and professional athletes earn millions of dollars per year, while other professionals who provide essential services, such as teachers and nurses, make a much lower salary. I think this is extremely unfair because certain professionals, like teachers, have so much to offer the world, while entertainers and pro athletes simply provide a source of entertainment. It is absolutely absurd to think that the lowest paid NFL player is still making more than most highly educated doctors. In my opinion, one should be paid according to the job’s economic importance and their value to society. Teaching is one of the most important jobs because our economy relies on the education of its youth, yet teachers are paid less than the average professional athlete is. However, some may argue that while teachers only provide service to a single classroom, superstar athletes are entertaining fans all around the world, providing people with a feeling of excitement and entertainment. In a sense, they are in fact risking their lives because anyone of these professional athletes could succumb to a career ending injury or even death. Being put through the kind of physical stress a pro athlete goes through will almost certainly affect them later in life, especially those in full-contact sports. Also, many people get inspired by athletes and end up doing great things on their own. If you find any kind of inspiration from someone else, then there is no way to put a value on how that person has positively affected your life. When an athlete uses their fame and fortune to help and inspire others, their hard work is truly being paid
