The one thing high school students fear to hear is their teacher say, “Time to learn Shakespeare”. This essay will explain not only why it is so hard to understand, but how his language and the way he wrote are way outdated. Nowadays, we have cell phones, making it easier to inform people from long distances, and how we use “you” instead of “thee” and “thou”. Due to the vast-changing world, Shakespeare is becoming more irrelevant in his language, difficulty and the era of technology. If a person has ever read a Shakespeare writing, they would instantly realize that the English used is much different than the English they know today. Niall Ferguson, author of Texting makes U Stupid, states, “But the more important reason is that children who don’t read are cut off from the civilization of their ancestors”. This shows that the lack of book reading is hurting them in the long run, they aren’t learning any of their history. However, the current generation was born into the most Technology any generation has ever seen. According to Ferguson, Teenage girls send and get more than 4,000 texts every month This just shows how technology has become a huge part of this generation's life, and there is no way that we can stop it. For example ,some schools are giving their students laptops/tablets, so that they can save money on paper and make the internet available to all students. And even if we are using way too much technology, that doesn’t mean we can’t read books. There are apps that allow people to read and everything online.
