Though the names are similar, an Anesthetist and an Anesthesiologist are two separate professions; however, the purpose of these two jobs is nearly identical. Both of these professions practice a field in medicine called anesthesiology, the act of putting someone to sleep. The only significant difference between the two is the fact that an anesthesiologist can adminster medication independently, while an anesthetist requires supervision from a higher-up.
