Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois were great leaders in the Civil rights movement. They helped blacks have more rights. W.E.B. DuBois was one of the co-founders of the NAACP. Booker T. Washington gave blacks strength with speeches. They both had a common goal, but they both had a different way on how to do it.

Both were the hope of generation because they were able to speak up to the rights for African American. Both wanted good education for African American for them to be recognize in the community and build a standard by their professions. both were against lynching because both wanted the lynching to be over .However, both of them have different way for Black social and economic progress.
W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington were two great leaders of the black community in the late 19th and 20th century. They both had the same intent with their thought but they came from two different backgrounds so it was hard for them to have agreement. Booker T. Washington spent his early childhood in slavery. W. E. B. DuBois grew up both free and in the North. Ergo, he did not experience the harsh conditions of slavery or of southern prejudice he grew up with white Americans and even attended predominately white schools.
One of the biggest similarities they have is their fascination with education. Washington was so determined for education he enrolled into Hampton University. One of Washington's biggest contributions to education was the development of the Tuskegee institute for the education of African Americans. W.E.B. Dubois was an important figure in the development of African American education. Dubois was also the first African American to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard.
Both of these men were contemporaries and without a doubt their personal experiences and perhaps the overall black experience in the United States guided their conscious to adopt certain strategies and tactics in order to uplift black people politically, economically and socially. This is where these two leaders fundamentally disagreed, which was followed by suspicion, name calling, distrust and an unwillingness to concede and perhaps recognize the strengths and weaknesses that existed in both of their philosophies. They were divided and they left black America divided and yet their arguments are still highly debated in academic circles and laypersons circles alike throughout America. Lastly, this research study is limited in scope and has not met all the academic restraints consistent with a scholarly paper, nevertheless, at the same time, it will display objectivity and sound research methods by briefly exploring in an unscientific manner, the slave plantation personalities (giving in the seminal study by John Blassigame) and how perhaps those historical values—culture) impacted slave behavior, as well shaped black personalities that proceeded from this peculiar institution.

After the Civil War and during the reconstruction time period for African Americans, the discussion of abolition and accommodation began. Even being free, blacks did not have equal rights to the white man and were not free from discrimination. Both the white and black populations split and argued for equality through submission or through demands. Booker T. Washington wrote the “Atlanta Compromise” to portray his ideas that the black population needs to submit to the white population to gain their equalities later on in time. Abolitionists such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Frederick Douglass disagreed with Washington’s ideas and instead wanted equal rights to earn their place in society.

Thinking all the way back to the late 1800s two great activists, authors, and historians come to mind. Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois became known as prominent influences during their times.
If you had to choose between someone who focuses on learning practical skills and being independent, or someone who would fight for education,civil rights and political changes, who would you choose? In this debate, W.E.B. Dubois is having a conversation with his rival, Booker T. Washington. W.E.B. DuBois proposes the idea of a higher level of education and how people should have their voices heard. Whilst Booker T. wants to keep our mouths shut, do what the system tells us to do, be hard independent workers and overall be good civilians. W.E.B. Dubois's approach is the most effective way to achieve equality and freedom.
During the Harlem Renaissance two of the most influential people at that time were Booker T Washington and w e b Dubois. both of them wanted civil and social rights for African-Americans. Both of them made speeches to groups of people pursuing a goal to create a black leadership group. Booker T Washington was a very selfless person and in 1856, he says” if you want to lift yourself up lift someone else up” this was a very meaningful quote to me because it shows how he wanted the improve the lives of others to achive his goal. Another thing he said that really spoke out to me was “nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work”.
At the start of the 20th century, there were two well-known African American leaders who wanted to achieve equality in America for African Americans. W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington did not agree on how to fight for the rights and opportunities for African Americans, even though they were alive in the same century. The life that African Americans experience during an important time in American history might be better understood by looking at their histories, philosophies, and achievements. Booker T. Washington saw how wrong slavery was from a young age, after being born into slavery in Franklin County, Virginia, in 1856. Washington wanted and managed to finish his studies, even though he and his family were faced with financial problems after being able to gain independence.
After looking at both Booker T. Washington and W.E. B. Dubois, I feel that Booker T. Washington had the best solution and best route for his solution for the black community. He was raised a salve and new first hard the lifestyle a majority of the blacks were coming from. He knew the frustrations that they had and knew how to deal with the situations. He was extremely educated just like W. E. B. Dubois, and he understand that change would take time. He knew that many whites would not change their opinions over night and that it would take a long time to get what all black deserved.
During the late nineteenth century, the Reconstruction of the South left many to question his/her individual place in society. After being freed from the bonds of slavery, African Americans struggled to understand their role as citizens of the United States. In the chaos of this time period, new leaders rose up. Two such influential people were Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois. Both helped to establish their own ideals concerning the matter of integration.
In the mid-to-late 1800s the African American community faced opposition and segregation. They were segregated from the whites and treated as second-class citizens. This segregation was caused in part by Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow laws separated races in schools, hospitals, parks, public buildings, and transportation systems. Both Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois had ideas on how to improve African American lives, Washington believed in starting at the bottom and working up whereas Du Bois had an opposing viewpoint he saw starting from the bottom as submissive and believed African Americans should hold important jobs in order to demand equal treatment.
Washington bolstered that African Americans focus on monetary and social change, contending that political rights would take after. He accepted that if African Americans made themselves gainful parts of society, white America would not have the capacity to withhold the rights that they merited. Washington perceived the essentialness of dark male suffrage, however he declared that with a specific end goal to claim the vote African Americans should first enhance their monetary positions. To push his perspectives he established the Tuskegee Institute in 1881 to give professional and in addition scholastic training to African-American students.
