Imagine a world of complete segregation, where everything you do is with people only of your race. A world without freedom which is what our country stands for. It’s a ridiculous thought to have lived through. Such leaders of the Civil Rights movement thought that it was outlandish as well. MLK and Malcolm X, two strong leaders of the Civil Rights movement, had two completely different strategies for changing that reality in their day to day life. MLK held a peaceful point of view as Malcolm X held an aggressive stance on the situation. Malcolm X’s aggressive strategy was seen as a force that didn’t accept the racial segregation. According to History.com, “Malcolm X, theactivist and outspoken public voice of the Black Muslim faith, challenged the mainstream civil rights movement and the nonviolent pursuit of integration championed by Martin Luther King Jr” (2009). Therefore, Malcolm X opposed the nonviolent movement. He believed that blacks should behold more power than whites, especially blacks of the Muslim faith. The Biography.com website states that, “Dr. King was highly critical of what he viewed as Malcolm X's destructive demagoguery. ‘I feel that Malcolm has done himself and our people a great disservice,’ King once said” (2018). Both activists had completely different strategies concerning the movement. Malcolm X, with the aggressive stance, in my opinion, had a more effective strategy. In an article by Al Jazeera, it states that, “While King advocated non-violent direct action and passive resistance to achieve equal civil rights, Malcolm X was the spokesman for the Nation of Islam (NOI), the black Muslim movement which violently rejected white America and its Christian values, and preached the supremacy of blacks over whites” (2017). Nonetheless, they were two different people. Malcolm wanted black supremacy as MLK wanted a peaceful world with both races living together. Blake, J has said in a CNN article, “He became the Nation of Islam's most visible spokesman from his base in New York. While King preached about his dream, Malcolm X said blacks were trapped in a nightmare” (2010). Views held by Malcolm showed that blacks were held under even though they should be seen as greater.
