Education plays an extremely important role within life, therefore everyone has their own way of educating others. From the stories, “Kids need Structure TED TALK” by Colin Powell and “Dr. Montessori’s Own Handbook” by Maria Montessori, both focus on their way of education and ways they are teaching education. They want their children to be successful but they both teach in different ways.Certain types of education can help guide a child depending on their learning style, Both writers explain their ways of teaching and how they affect the children when learning.

I make them stand at attention like a soldier” (Powell 10-12).This goes back to mainly structure but partly respect, Powell has his students come up when they have questions and stance in the way a soldier would, the reason behind this is most likely because Powell himself was a soldier. This continues by showing respect towards him, as well as it keeps them organized with what they are doing. Structure and respect is a key in education, that way you're organized with what you do and seem prepared. Both Montessori and Powell’s stories point this out well. An example from Powell’s story is; “Yeah, and then when I ask you a question, there are only three possible answers: yes,sir; no, sir; and no excuse , sir. don't start telling me why you didn't do something. It's yes, sir; no, sir; no excuse, sir. (Powell 30-32). Powell states “don’t start telling me why you didn't do something”, you shouldn't go on about something you did not do when you could be doing that assignment or whatever it is instead of going on about why u did not do it. Maria Montessori also has examples of guiding a student within teaching such as; “It is necessary for the teacher to guide the child without letting him feel her presence too much, so that she may be always ready to supply the desired help, but may never be the obstacle between the child and his experiences” (Montessori 2-5). Montessori said that the teacher needs to guide the child but without having said kid feeling his or her presence too much. That way the child is not getting distracted while attempting to learn.
