Additionally, the differences and similarities are also about in the characters. Obviously, Walter Mitty is the main character in both the movie and short story. The short story has him seeming to be much older than he is in the movie. Walter was taken throughout different daydreams in the motion picture and story. He was going through a normal day , in the short story and movie , and experienced things like being in front of a firing squad , pretending to be Sean O'Connell and talking to Cheryl , being an expert surge working on VIPs , and etc.
Whether it’s a fantasy book, or a realistic fiction, each and every author develop their stories in different ways. The theme is built off the 3 things, character, setting and plot. The elements of fiction that makes up fiction, well, fiction. Whether it’s a utopia or a dystopia, there’s always a theme developed by character, setting and plot. But, what makes sci-fi, sci-fi?
There are many different short stories over science fiction. They all have minor things in common but yet they are all so different. For example they all will be about the future or something that is not going to happen right now but they are things that could be real but are not right now. The three stories I am going to compare and contrast are Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury, and Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut. To begin with the settings are pretty similar.
Both stories have their differences and similarities, yet they both revolve around the effect of technology on the real world.
A typical genre loved by many is used in all different types of books and stories. One of the most fascinating ones that can place the reader in unimaginable worlds with new people, technology and rules is science fiction. Although most think it to be just that, fiction about scientific advancements and future worlds, authors take it to the next level by using their writing to critique modern day societal issues. Using the conventions of science-fiction they can critique the world without the reader even noticing. Science fiction can be classified as many things but many people think of it being in the future and it having to do with technology. In Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man she uses Science fiction in about every part of her story and uses it to teach us about the dangers of it. In her story it’s just a bunch of little short stories and they all kind of give us a story on how technology can be bad or harmful to humans.
