On social media 76% of teens are involved with it. A typical teen sends 2,000 text messages a month (Tarshis, 18). Thats ridiculous isn’t it. Says Lauren Tarshis’s article Is Technology Killing our Friendships.
In sunny California there is a town called Yutter. The dearth of water has caused the soil to be very dry and infertile and so the farmers cannot grow crops, impacting the economy in Yutter, changing it for the worst. The town of Yutter has a deal with the farmers and the water supply company for the town so that they can have more water than other citizens per square acre of land, in order to keep the new seeds alive before they shrivel up and the plants die. Paul Jump, Yutter’s main farmer, much to his chagrin, asked the mayor at the town meeting for water, saying “I can grow food for my pigs with the money I made off of my crops if I have two thousand more gallons a week!” The mayor ignores his request and the audience of the meeting starts to become obstreperous as they walk up to Paul Jump with screams of invective.

In fact, teenagers use on average five screens a day (Patel, “10 Tips”). The use of social media makes teenagers happier and cures their boredom after school. However, problems arise when young people find all their satisfaction on social media. All this time spent on social media and whether you get enough “likes” could result in a bad outcome and cause poor health.
As we see in figure 1 the age demographics shows remarkable difference in young people. Snapchat may have overtaken Instagram as teenager’s favorite form of social media. Yet despite these differences, the two social networks share some similarities. The first one: is the app for to photo-sharing and video-sharing.

We use social media to connect with friends and family, also to found out the latest news or fashion trends. With this increasing number, social media has reached an extremely large audience in which resulted in a melting pot of diverse discussions on daily topics. Due to this enormous audience, one must be quite cautious about what they share online. These platforms have become a useful tool that may result in real-life consequences if used in an inefficient way.
Nevertheless, social media plays a huge role in our society, it connects people all over the world, provides an opportunity to work or study being at home and it gives space for self-expression.
