In the transition of recreational soccer to competitive soccer, many aspects of the game changed. The game got faster, the girls get meaner, and a leader had to rise. Leaders are hardworking, responsible, and possibly a role model to others around them. Stripping on the blue captains band, either resting at the top of where my sock folds or molding the shape of my arm, is how I have shown leadership in the eight years of playing competitive soccer. The captains band represents an intuition of the burning desire to lead a group of young women throughout the duration of a ninety-minute game.
Behind a team, someone always holds it together, the coach. Being a coach is not an easy job, as Mr. Galanter proves in The Chosen by Chaim Potok. However, no matter how hard things get for the team, Mr. Galanter is always there, cheering his team on in the sport that they love. So what goes into making a coach? How is Mr. Galanter always there when needed and how does he help the team in exactly the right way they need?
List all leadership roles you have held that pertain to cheerleading captain. (Example: teaching/leading others, choreography, years of experience, etc.) I have taught the dance at tryouts and stayed during tryouts in case anyone had questions or needed help. I also have taught the cheers at the beginning of basketball season. Next, I went to almost all the JV cheer games and tried help out as much as I could.
In any discourse community, leadership is a crucial factor and on a sports team, this should be a responsibility dedicated to the player that shows the qualities and can bring satisfaction. This feeling can be gained by working hard at practices and showing the results at the soccer games. The feeling calls you to set personal and team goals. Physical and soccer skills are not the only qualities needed to be part of the soccer discourse community. There are other skills that can help the players develop such as relationship skills.
I was exposed to a high-intensity of competitiveness and the attitudes that came along with it. My perspective on life and my personality were both changing quickly and I was beginning to like the person I was becoming. I was able to hold conversations and became much more social than I previously was too shy to accomplish. This newfound confidence solidified my feeling of separation between myself and the group of girls.
I still actively take lessons and thoroughly enjoy them. In addition, I have been committed to competitive soccer since the year of 2012. In the same way, I have played for my zoned high school’s soccer team since the year of 2012. Currently, I am participating in both teams and serve as the varsity captain for my high school team. Through this role of leadership I strive to motivate and encourage my fellow teammates to be the best they can be.
Being cheer captain is a very important job not only is it important, but it comes with many responsibilities. Cheerleading itself is a very special privilege that people all around the world get to have the opportunity to do. Making the cheer team is one of the most exciting times of one’s life but becoming captain would be once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that would be a pleasure of anyone. Becoming cheer captain would give me the opportunity to be a good image to the squad, showcase my leadership abilities, and motivate my squad to spread spirit all throughout the school. When I think of a cheer captain I think of someone who gets along with every member of the team and is well liked by every last person on the team to include the coaches.
Ever since I was little, my mom stressed me to be a leader. By this she meant don’t be like everyone else and look up to a person, but be the one who everyone looks up to. Being a leader isn’t an easy thing to be because you must be a role model 24/7. In my opinion I’m a leader academically and physically. Excelling when it comes to grades and on the football field.
Being a leader involves many different characteristics. A leader must set the example for all others in the group, because if they are to show up late to practice, there isn’t a reason that any of the other members should not do the same. A leader must take risks for the benefit of the group as well as make sacrifices for it. Becoming the leader of the group requires for them to be the most dedicated. They must work harder and not be afraid to lead the group.
Last year I became captain on the Soccer Varsity team of my high school. Being captain isn’t just being the head of all the girls, but is doing the best for the team. My goal was to work as a team in and outside the field, and working together to win and have fun. But my conflicts with certain girls were getting in the way, because how can I expect them to do a certain thing if I’m not setting an example. I chose to talk to those girls, set things straight and set an example to my teammates.
Now as I am a junior this year, I will be faced with the challenge of having to be a leader for our soccer team. This is my third year playing soccer, and I will have to lead our underclassmen in a positive and respectful manner. This challenge of helping lead our soccer team will come much easier given I have had
In my last two years of club soccer my team went through three different coaches, which is a very quick turnaround on coaches. Many of my teammates expressed their confusion to me but were too intimidated by the coaches to ask any questions themselves. As captain, I felt is was my job to ask questions for them and help clarify issues. I remained in contact with Coach Sean even though he was no longer my coach and thanked him for helping me with soccer and told him that he gave me the confidence to ask questions unlike my teammates who didn’t have him. He told me that, like me he was very reserved and his coach helped bring him out of his shell on the soccer field.
I began playing soccer when I was eight, which isn’t a very long time, but throughout the six years I’ve been playing, soccer has changed my life.
