Many people from younger generations check social media more than they have face to face conversations. The problem with social media being the main form of communication for elected leaders, is that several generations do not have/check social media. This leaves them unable to access the information that has been posted online. If used appropriately social media can be a very useful tool for elected leaders, but it should not be the only tool used to communicate with the public. Technology is at the tip of everyone's fingerprint. It can take no longer than a minute to type something and nationally publicized it without giving it a second thought. With that being said, elected officials should always have a team/person to check what they are publicizing. It is easy to tweet/publicize the wrong information, especially with this quick outlet, so it should be required that messages are proofread by another. Another smart practice for leaders, is to not have social media downloaded on their smart phone. As humans our emotions affect us quickly and we often feel a response to immediately snap back. By removing these apps and just having them on an official device, the emotions are more likely to die down before posts are created that will soon be regretted.
