Even though social media has the ability to improve and facilitate the way people communicate and socialize with one another, it has also created an impact in other areas of society. In other words, social media doesn’t merely affect the way society communicates, but it has also managed to impact other areas like culture, business, and more importantly, politics. In the world of American politics, social media has played a significant role in the way politicians engage and participate in politics. For example, the president of the United States is able to directly communicate with Americans within seconds through a simple tweet. This expansion of fraudulent information is constantly being spread to millions of Americans, and it has created a problem in a fundamental facet of American politics: the voting process. As social media bombards voters with endless misleading and one-sided information, voters are less able to distinguish between true and false information, and thus, one can argue that American elections are being decided by misinformed voters. This poses a threat to American politics, as a threat to the voting process is a threat to America’s democracy. In order to solve this problem, there must be an implementation of policy that aims to educate voters on how to be better consumers of information on social media, and place regulations on social media that decreases room for
