Presenting Problems: Mylin was referred by Instructor Phillips to create a psychosocial on self for educational purposes. The cause of referral was due to a classroom activity that occurred in the month of October where classmates interviewed each other. Recommendations: The completion of the assignment will increase Mylin’s self awareness and cause her to have a better understand of why she made the decision to pursue social work as a career. Family Composition and Background: Mylin was raised in a single parent household in Chicago, Illinois. The family is of Afro-American and Belizean descent. When conflict occurs in the family the family alliance is usually Mylin and her younger 15 year old brother against mom, with the eldest sister being the mediator. Mylin is not in contact with the paternal side of her family. Mylin supplies for her brothers at times. Mylin’s mother has issues of pride. Recommendations: Mylin should attempt to reconnect with her father and the paternal side of her family. Mylin should encourage her mother to seek assistance in resolving her issues of pride. The family should participate in family therapy. Safety Strengths and Interests: Mylin does have the ability to ask for help in a crisis situation. Recommendations: There are no recommendations for Mylin pertaining to education. Social/Recreational Strengths and Interests: Mylin has interest in volunteering in her free time and traveling. She is an introverted person and slow to warm up to new people who enter her life. Mylin is a home body and does not like to party or the night life. Mylin prefers a close knit group of friends and prefers to stay to herself. Mylin has best friends from childhood and remains close to her cousins. Mylin partakes in numerous organization that participate in cause that she deem important such as Black Girls Vote, FUTURE, and she is a coordinator in the Office of Community Service at Morgan State University.
