There are stories about characters having a brother who has a deep effect on them which could be because the characters care for their brother. Two stories that are about this are called “A Brother’s Crime” and “The Scarlet Ibis”. Inside “A Brother’s Crime” is about Edwin Booth, the brother of John Wilkes Booth, learning about their brother’s crime and has to deal with it. The story “A Scarlet Ibis” is about how a brother has pride in their own little brother that ends badly because of how that pride has good and bad. In “A Brother’s Crime” and “The Scarlet Ibis”, the actions of a brother had a profound effect on one of the main characters.
Comparing Two Dumb Comedies I love the movie genre that involves me to laugh and brings me happiness, so I will be comparing the film “Step Brothers” with the movie “Dumb and Dumber”. THE SQUID AND THE WHALE The film starts with a scene of the family playing tennis where the mom and the younger son is paired against the father and the elder son. The extreme competitiveness of Bernard, the father, is very evident in this scene itself thus giving us a glimpse of his narcissistic personality. Bernard’s desire to fight and hurt Joan, the mother, is evident in the way he uses their son to defeat her and hits her with the ball.
A father and son relationship should be based on love, support, importance, leadership, time and affection. It should not be based on financial support. This first essay that I read helped me understand the psychological struggle and symbolic meaning of the story. He supports his idea with three possible hypothesis: first, the narrator was a victimized child that resulted with some psychotic symptoms; second, the narrator is re-enacting his abuse to make the old man feel what he suffered; and for last, the old man is a victim of the narrator´s threat of incest.
Soledad brother was written in a unique style. His letters describe his feelings when he was inside and out the prison. Each letter was written from his point of view, therefore the reader is able to connect to his words and situations. Throughout the book there are themes that resonate to the reader the most. My connections to the book were as close I could make them which also made me have an emotional response.
