Abigail's P.O.V.
Man, I hate being alone. At least, I was alone before I had found Sophie. Cute little thing she is. All fluffy and soft. And since it's winter, she's like a portable heater for me. It gets pretty cold where I'm staying. Speaking of that, its cold right now.
"Sophie..." I whispered.
She came trotting through the door, tail wagging and tongue hanging out. I patted my leg to beckon her to me. She plopped herself next to me, lying her head on my shoulder, staring at me with those big puppy dog eyes. I think she's a Border Collie, well, that's what I think her tags say. I slowly stood up, trying not to make a single noise. I tip-toed to the door, opening it and quickly glanced around the corner.
Even worse.
TWO zombies.
As if it couldn't be any worse. Two flippin' zombies. I quietly shut the door with a click. I retreated back into the room stuffing all my belongings into my backpack. I also packed Sophie's little doggie backpack. We quickly climbed the stairs, I ended up climbing them two at a time to get done faster. I stood at the top of the stairs, taking mental inventory. AH!! I left my gun! I thought.
My machetes were across my back, but I had left my hand gun!
"Stay!" I whispered to Sophie.
She sat down then laid down, completely relaxed. I sprinted down the stairs and took a sharp right, then kneeled in front of a crate. I rummaged through the crate that had empty bottles, cans, and other trash from previous meals. There lay my gun, right where I had left it. I stood up and quickly turned around. I ran toward the general direction of the stairs. I jumped the stairs two at a time. Ah, too much noise....maybe the zombies won't hear.
But, not to my surprise, the next thing I heard were zombie growls from behind the doors. Sophie immediately stood to attention, her ears back and her tail straight out. She stared at the door to the hallway we were supposed to be escaping
