In 2 very different images created by the Southern Poverty Law Center, or the SPLC, the organization employs Pathos, Logos, and Ethos in an attempt to persuade the audience that their organization is one fighting for good, and that American government is flawed. Meaning that it isn’t conducive to an environment for equality encourages hatred, not adequately supporting civil rights, and teaching intolerance between races, and ethnicities. The first image uses colors like red to make the viewer feel anger towards the government, while also Included the “don’t tread on me” symbol from the American Revolution to invoke a sense of unity, and send a positive message. While image 2 attempts to connect on a more personal level with the audience by using younger kids, in order to inspire you to think about your kids, or kids you may know. In fact, They seem to contradict each other. In this particular case, the main focus in image 1 is not only unprofessional, and unclear. From what can be seen, the message appears to be rebellion, and criticism. Using red as a representation of rebellion or anger, along with a raised fist, and explosions. As opposed to Image 2 is purposed to show acceptance, and peacefulness, as a group of kids with different backgrounds just hanging out. It is important to point out though that even if Image 2 is about what the SPLC supports. What is Image 1 for? Is it supposed show information anywhere on the website. Given that Image 1 is not pair with any text that could help explain what the organization is whatever topic they wanted to cover. Whereas Image 2 is to set an example of what they are supporting and on some level how, which is significantly more descriptive, because since the viewer would have little to if any prior knowledge on SPLC, the picture helps convey the message the organization wants. So the viewer can gain a better idea of what SPLC is doing.
