The novel “Speak” written by Laurie Halse Anderson in my opinion is an excellent choice to read. The book it self as won several awards including being a finalist in the Nation Book Award. Speak was originally published in the year of 1999 and now in the present time, it is the 15th anniversary and yet it is still stocked up on book selves. When you first open the book you see the author and her picture, but then as you turn the page you see poems and a letter written off by the author. Then turn the pages a little more and you see small stories I guess written by readers whose lives have changed due to reading this book. That particular thing stood out and made me want to actually read and not look on the Internet for summaries of chapters. An assignment was given to me when the student such as myself had to take quotes from the book and reflect ones thoughts on it. Me personally had fun with that because I could relate to what she would say and it made it easier for me to clarify the text. The cover page itself makes you want to read and figure out why there is a tree on it. As a teenager coming into high school, you especially have to worry about being perfect, if your not then you think no ones going to be your friend or treat you the same. The pressure of keeping secret as big as being raped from your parents, the thought of that could happen a girl of the same age as me is terrifying. It makes you look at the world differently now that you know that things in that could easily happen to me. This whole book is about decision, either making good ones or bad one, either hanging with the right crowd or knowing whom your real friends
