Someday we will overcome the unfair laws put against us Hispanic Americans. “THERE IS NO TURNING BACK”, as a farmworker and labor activist I Cesar Chavez will help pass the first-ever Farm Labor Act. Today, I will present to you reasons why the Farm Labor Act will improve the lives of Hispanic Americans. Many Hispanic Americans have had to deal with all of unfair treatment from other ethnic groups over the years. I will give current and future farmers a better lifestyle so they will not have to go through what we went through. They had us working in the fields as if we were slaves except there was no Harriet Tubman to bring us to the promised land. The farmers and I were not given the right items needed to work out in the blistering hot sun. When working on these plantations, I would witness farmers getting infectious diseases, and they had us overcrowded in one area. Working out on hot summer days would cause my skin to become irritated. I would start getting hot flashes and the people who were monitoring us did not do anything. Not even water! Absolutely nothing! We were forced to work in unsafe environments without any protective gear. It is my goal to improve the lives of future and current farmers and help improve their work conditions. I would not have the same lives as an average American citizen because I did not have the opportunities to receive healthcare, education, or compensation time. Many Hispanic Americans did not get any education because they would not accept any Hispanic children into schools in America. This is due to them not being legal citizens of America. The United States frowns upon Hispanics wanting to better their lives by immigrating to the land of hope. This year approximately 107,200 Mexicans have received a green card and entered North America. While this is wonderful, 740,000 Mexicans were rejected. The final part of the Farm Labor Act is granting the right of equality to all Hispanic Americans. As mentioned by Frederick Douglass, one of the most fiercely eloquent proponents of abolition, and a man who has suffered much for his freedom and the freedom of his people“Have I not the right to be free.”(Life Of Frederick Douglass An American Slave, Page 145) Mi pueblo no tiene derecho a una vida
