Spyware In Harlan Coben's The Undercover Parent

Have you ever heard of the term, spyware? As the technologies are continuously being

developed, new dangers are coming. To protect children from those dangers, many companies

came out with the idea of the spyware. However, whether the spyware would be the right choice

to protect our children or not is still controversial. After I read an article, The Undercover Parent,

by Harlan Coben and some other researches, I strongly disagree with the idea of spyware.

First, spyware is definitely the invasion of privacy to young children and teenagers. Survey

in Ipoly High School showed that 84.25% of 9th grade either agreed or strongly agreed that

Teenagers would feel uncomfortable when they find out that their parents downloaded spyware on

their electronic devices.

Also, the invasion of privacy by spyware can lead to a bigger problem, which deals with

trust. When teenagers find out that their parents downloaded the spyware on their electronic

devices, they would think like if their parents don’t have enough trust in them. These thoughts can

possibly hurt children/teenagers. Survey in IPOLY High School also showed that 79% of 9th grade

either disagreed or strongly disagreed that if they become a parent, they would spy on their children.

Part of the reason they disagreed is because they would have faith in their children. Also, parents

should consider how their children would feel about the spyware, at least once, before they

download the spyware on their children’s electronic devices.

Some people might say that the internet is a very dangerous place to have children on it

without supervision. I agree that the internet can be a dangerous place. However, I think that

downloading spyware just because that the internet can possibly be dangerous place might
