"Go, and set the world on fire," -St. Ignatius of Loyola. To become a saint, one must be faithful to God and show others the way to be faithful to God. Saints love God with all their mind, heart, and soul. They are true representations of Catholics. As Christians, we should all strive to become saints. One saint in particular is St. Ignatius of Loyola. His eventful and vocational life was what led him to become a saint, and we believe that he went to heaven. The way St. Ignatius of Loyola incorporated God into his early life and adult life is the reason why one should reflect on him. Next, the 4th part of his life is his contributions to society. During this part he is mostly in Rome, Italy and it begins in 1539. With a few of the peers that he met during his educational years, together they formed a permanent union where they vowed to live a life of humility, chastity, and obedience under a leader. In 1540, Pope Paul III approved of this order and Ignatius of Loyola was elected the leader. This society is know as the Society of Jesus. Subordinate to him where over 1,000 people spanning around 7 countries at the time of his death in 1556. One of the most important works of his life was the Constitutions of the Society of Jesus where he described the type of society it is and how it should be governed. During his life he established the Roman College, embryo of Gregorian University, and a seminary for Germans called the Germanicum. He resigned from being the leader of the society in 1551 because of illness. Ignatius died on July 31, 1556 due to illness. St. Ignatius of Loyola was beautified by Pope Paul V in 1609 and he was canonized in 1622 by Pope Gregory XV. He was declared the patron saint of spiritual retreats in 1922 by Pope Pius XI. Ignatius of Loyola was a very influential saint. He was able to turn his life around from being a leader in the military to being the leader of a religious society. By living a devout life to Jesus, fasting, being obedient, and practicing chastity and humility, he was able to show his love for Him. His incredible leadership is a virtue that stands out about St. Ignatius. He was able to lead thousands of men on the battlefield and thousands of Catholics spiritually. Additionally, his passionateness is one that everyone can strive for. The way he showed passion for everything he did throughout his whole life is a reason for why his passionateness stands out as well. His leadership and passionateness are virtues that I admire about him. I believe I am a natural-born leader, like St. Ignatius and I think I can continue learning and trying to be a better leader everyday. Also, I would like to reach his level of passionateness for whatever he does. A superior job is done when it is done passionately.
