As a co-leader for the Greater Bethesda AMSA chapter, I work to support the professional goals of the NIH post-baccalaureate fellows through hosting panel discussions, group meetings regarding the professional school application process, and organizing mock interviews. In addition, I organize community and volunteer opportunities such as Kids Enjoy Exercise Now. It is fulfilling to witness students gain valuable knowledge and support while navigating through the application process. Working as an officer for AMSA has taught me the value of being a co-leader, that is working with other leaders to achieve a common goal and how to plan events based on the needs of the student community.
One past leadership position that I held in high school was the presidential seat of National Honor Society. Through this leadership position, I’ve gained communication skills between teachers and fifty students in the organization. I’ve promoted and facilitated community service activities. I’ve also learned to engage actively with colleagues and branch out of my comfort zone, especially when it is something I am passionate about. As the president, I delegate responsibilities to board members that I worked closely with to achieve the organization’s goals.
In the student council at my high school, I have helped accomplish countless tasks and school wide projects. Of course these were done with a lot of help but I worked hard to lead my team to achieve our goals. I have been in student
In the National Honor Society, I was fortunate to be elected President, this has allowed me to organize service projects and encourage the other members to take leadership
Likewise, I was never aware of the tremendous amount of happiness and sense of togetherness that comes with seeing the faces of students enjoying our sponsored events and other organizations hearing about our efforts on campus. Being the president of SHAC has truly been a blessing to me and has opened my eyes to my true potential as a leader. I no longer shy away from speaking in front of large groups, question whether or not to share my opinions on topics and believe that there is only one way to successfully accomplish a goal. Although I would love to say that SHAC has helped Brady Health and students here on campus, I know that it is being in SHAC that has truly helped me. I have developed into a person that I would not have recognized during my early days as a college student if it has not been for this leadership role.
This year, I have continued to achieve academic excellence inside the classroom while continuing to be a leader in the St. Paul’s community. For the first semester, I have earned four A’s and three B’s in the full International Baccalaureate Program (my school will be sending my updated transcript). This winter, I earned the role of the captain of my varsity basketball team. I am a leader on the court and try to set an example for my teammates of how important it is to work hard in all aspects of life. This year has been the third year of the Jewish Awareness Club at St. Paul’s, which I founded in my sophomore year.
A picture from my tenure as Student Government President is hanging on the third floor of the student union. My job as Student government president was the most challenging position as a student leader. It required teamwork, dedication, planning, and some time away from my studies as a student. Also, I am member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.; The brothers of my fraternity and I have completed a large amount of community service events across the Hampton roads. Other organizations I have participated in includes the Residence Hall association, student ambassadors, and biology society.
Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.
Just last year I signed onto the School Store committee in order to help enlist school pride. While there, I was elected the secretary. Being the secretary
Not only do these clubs recognize academic excellence, they also provide many opportunities for community service. Blood drives, food drives and Operation Christmas Child are only a few of the projects that we participate in throughout the year. I am
When dealing with cancer, it harms the body and forms masses of tissue (tumors), or forms lumps. When a tumor spreads and grows, it destroys the healthy tissues. I have had my own experience with cancer. One of my uncles had it and he had a wife and 2 twin boys and he died before they turned 2. I didn 't know why he got it and how it happened.
Cancer, such a ugly disease. How can someome so heart warming have something so horrible. when finding out my gran had cancer it was one of the worat days ever, knowing she had to go through that pain and torture for more than 2 years was heart breaking, the moment she told us was the hardest part, she was so strong and independent we were so shocked, she was so brve not one tear. months and months later just got worse and worse seeing her lie this was painful. we visited her more than 4 times a week and even knowing she was going through all that pain she never looked happier.
Cancer Kills Have you ever been told that someone you love has cancer? I was at my mom house seating on a chair outside with my boyfriend Kyle. He knew I wasn 't having a good day so he came over. My mom asked " Kyle, can come over here please I need to tell you something?" Kyle answered "Yes I 'll be right there."
I have become a dedicated member to a lot of different activities and have held an officer position in each since sophomore year. Through these groups I have, completed multiple different community service projects including out of state service trips, planned a childhood cancer awareness night, and even started a National Honor Society Relay for Life team. I have become dedicated to learning more about high risk behavior prevention and finding new ways to give back to my community and beyond. I am proud of the work I have done for these groups and the people that I have met and helped while in a leadership position. I have developed my leadership skills and learned so much about myself as a person.
From contesting for this position to getting elected and working for betterment of my house group, I gained a lot of experience and self-confidence and became more responsible. Being a vice captain, I played an important role in addressing and motivating students, advising and helping them, and earning points for my group by participating in many competitions alone or in a team. I also served as the student voice of the school to a variety of external and internal constituents. The student council served as a bridge between the students and the school heads and administration.
