Part 2.1: Company
The company that we have chosen for this assignment is The Standard Oil Company. It was incorporated in the year 1870 in the American state of Ohio. During that time, the company was mainly involved in oil refining. It owned the largest of the refineries in the state’s capital, Cleveland. By 1882, Standard Oil had entered other oil-related businesses, such as the production and marketing of oil (Standard Oil Company and Trust, n.d.).
Part 2.2: Concepts
We chose Chapter 3: Strategic Attacks for our assignment. Concept 3.7 states that : “The ability to subdue the enemy without any battle is the ultimate reflection of the most supreme strategy.”. This may imply the application of supreme domination. It is to cause the competitor to

This may mean aligning the motivations of others to yours.
Concept 3.9: “The next best strategy is to attack his relationships and alliances with other nations.”. This may mean to weaken the opponent’s support system. If that is weak, they may be less effective in achieving their goals.
Concept 3.10: “The next best strategy is to attack his army.”. In our times, this may mean challenging competitors in market segments which they have a presence.
Concept 3.11: “The worst strategy of all is to attack walled cities.”. This may mean challenging others in their dominant segments.
Concept 3.12: “Attack walled cities when there are no other alternatives.”. If there are no attractive alternatives left, compete in their dominant segments.
Concepts: 3.16 and 3.17 : “Thus, even if he (the general) orders his troops to assault the walls like ants, one-third of them will be killed and the city will still not be conquered.” , and “This is the disastrous consequence of embarking on such an attack.”. These two concepts may imply that uncalculated actions caused by impatience will be costly in
