In school, ranging from elementary to high school, even those pursuing higher education, have to face many challenges and obstacles during their academic career. One of those challenges is standardized testing. Standard testing has always been around in school. It can vary from a district-given test such as a benchmark test, to see what ‘level’ the students are at, or a nationwide test, such as the SAT, PSAT, and ACT. It is used very often in school. It is most commonly used to measure how much they’ve learned, and if they’ve met the requirements of the district or nation's expectations. With standardized testing being a big part of a student's academic career, it can cause a student to worsen. Due to the use of this testing and its importance of it, students will face a negative effect on their mental well-being. Standardized testing puts stress on students, is unnecessary, and doesn’t help a student learn.
With standardized testing, comes the pressure to do well on the test. This pressure can cause students to become stressed and even cause them to have testing anxiety.
