“Standardized testing has been around since the 1800’s” (3) and has gradually began to take over school systems. Even though testing has been around for years the way teachers and students have adapted to taking the tests have changed. The tests have evolved from testing not the students’ knowledge but what the students memorize in order to pass. Students have begun to stress and dread school in fear of failure due to the amounts of pressure added with amounts of school work to be prepared for exams. The children are not actually learning anything, but memorizing and remembering what their teachers have taught to make a good test score. Standardize testing are at schools which makes it easier for students to take; however, “Students will lose a minimum of 10 school days to taking standardized tests. These assessments are not given for the purpose of informing parents or students what they have learned and what they need to work on. These 10 days of lost learning are devoted to grading my performance as their teacher,” (2) states Mary Hufford a high school English teacher in Ohio.
