Standardized Testing In Schools Essay

Many parties believe that standardized tests are a fair and objective measure of the student’s ability and knowledge and holds the schools and teachers accountable to the taxpayers and especially, the parents. Others state that the tests are neither fair nor objective and that it promotes a narrow curriculum and makes teachers just teach to the test and that so much testing undermines America’s ability to produce innovators and critical thinkers.
Even with the amount of testing and regulations being implemented I the schools especially as a major focus of teachers and students, we still seem to be failing worldwide according to the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). This international survey which aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students. In the last PISA performance, which was in 2015, the United States was ranked 25 in science, reading and mathematics, which is one of the lowest rankings of any of the developed countries. Singapore, Japan, Estonia, Finland, and Canada were the top performers and have been for years. Why are these countries outperforming the united states? Let’s talk about some of the before mentioned countries school systems.
