Starbucks is a company that is still on the rise. Carson City has five Starbucks locations, giving them more stores than any drive thru location in town. More locations brings demand for more managers. Each store feels different and molds itself to the customers.
Ivan is a friendly, and energetic employee. After many visits to Starbucks, I decided Ivan would be a good candidate to interview. He has been the store manager with Starbucks for three and a half years, with ten years of previous managerial experience. Starbucks promotes based on actions. They are looking for people that are interested in moving up in the company with a passion for quality. Growing up on a coffee farm, Ivan has been exposed to coffee his whole life.
Furthermore, Starbucks is a great career choice for someone that enjoys coffee. The company offers free drinks to the employees and takes their suggestions for new ideas seriously. Communicating an idea to management is defined and said to be easy by Ivan. Within the organization, there is a person that travels around the world to find the highest quality of coffee. Being active and friendly with customers is key to being a good employee. Starbucks does not require a degree for any store level positions. Depending on the location of the store, sales goals may be more difficult to accomplish. Ivan explained how being in a shopping mall with 80% of the stores empty greatly impacts traffic to his store. With the reduced traffic, employees are given more time to get the one on one relationships with every customer. More time with each customer means more accuracy, satisfaction, and loyalty.
