In America there are many laws that must be followed. But who makes all of these laws? There are two different levels at which they make laws. The federal law and the state law. These two governments are important in order to keep our country safe and the most effective.
The difference between the federal law and state law is that when there is a federal law the whole nation must obey by it, while state laws only have to be followed by people who are in the state. Specific responsibilities have been split between the federal law and the state law and some fall under both where there is a federal law but each state can choose if they want to change it. The federal law states that abortions are legal as long as they are before the second trimester but the states are free to make their own decisions. Many states have abortion legal before the woman is in a certain trimester, most commonly, the second. Iowa, for example, has abortion legal under all circumstances. But if the woman is a minor, they must have one signature from either parent or guardian. Although it is becoming more popular to have abortion legal after the second trimester there are still some states that don’t allow it. This law should be made from the federal government. When it comes to unwanted pregnancies, nothing changes from states to state which means that each state doesn’t need their own law. Having the law be a national law could help reduce the attacks on Planned Parenthood facilities and other hatred within small communities.
The federal government should have more power than the states because if they don’t then the states can get out of control. They can get out of control in the sense that they could make laws that the federal government doesn’t agree with or ones that break the rules of the Constitution. If the states have too much power they could not only do damage to the rest of the country, but possibly separate from the country. This is why it is important that the federal law has more power than the state law so that the United States of America stays
