State Water Project Personal Statement

438 Words2 Pages

First, I came to America with my family because we were refugees. However, I thought education is a key to open the door for everyone in the United States. Therefore, I went back to College. I worked very hard in support for my family and also studied hard. After several years, I graduated in double majors Chemical Engineering & Material Sciences at University of California, Davis. After that, I have joined to work in DWR since 2000.
I have worked more than 16 years with DWR. I have known well about State Water Project (SWP) which is the largest State built, multi purposes water project in United States, and the largest in the world. SWP system’s facilities include about 700 miles of canal & pipe line, the tallest dam in the nation and the highest pumping in US. SWP’s major function is to supply water for most Californians and some hundred acres of farmlands. …show more content…

I have gained strongly on Water Resources Engineering Skills. For example, I have involved several designs for SWP such as In Delta Storage on Bacon Island and Webb Tract, Recreation on Frank’s Tract, and Modifications Existing Siphons on Sherman and Twitchell Islands, etc. When working on these Projects, I had great opportunities to analyze the flow rate by using HEC-RAS, calculate hydraulic structures, evaluate and design existing and new levees, research geology for project sites, and investigate water historical data by using California Data Exchange Center. Now, I am working in Maintenance Engineering Section, especially overseeing for all DWR’s Water Treatment Plants in Delta, San Luis, San Joaquin, and Southern field divisions. I have administered drinking water regulations and reported drinking water quality data of DWR Water Treatment Plants to Water Resources Control Board
