On my way to take a tour of East Carolina University, I was driving down the highway and looked out to my left and right and saw miles and miles of solar panels and wind turbines. I was so excited to see the use of this environmental technology, and at this point I finally had figured out what I wanted to major in and have as my career path. My goal is to become an Environmental Engineer with a focus in Alternative Energy. I believe that the future of environmental careers in STEM are extremely important and exciting because there are always new technologies to discover and improve. My passion for Alternative Energy Technologies is based on the importance to the environment not just in the United States but all over the world and to accelerate the use of renewable resources. There are many problems from pollution of the environment from fossil fuels but alternative energy such as wind and solar offer solutions to some of these problems, which is what makes me want to have a career this Engineering. …show more content…

Some of the problems that we are faced with include but are not limited to, 1) fossil fuels are not green sources of energy; they contain high amounts of carbon and have been blamed for being the main contributor to global warming; 2) fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources. This means that fossil fuels are not renewable, in needed quantities, in a finite period of time because it takes millions of years for fossil fuels to be produced by natural processes, as opposed to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar; and 3)We are spending our fossil fuel reserves in a non-sustainable manner. Luckily, this forces us to think different when it comes to energy, which results in the growth of renewable and green sources of
