For the past 4 years, I’ve walked into the same building every single morning. Admittedly, there have been some days where the first thing I said to my friends was about how I couldn’t wait to graduate. Now, though, as I have less than two months left at Highland High School, I’m beginning to dread the day when I will no longer walk the same halls that I’ve grown so accustomed to.
Before entering high school, I’d heard all the horror stories presented by Hollywood and young adult novelists. I was afraid of being dumped in a trash can, getting lost on my way to classes, and the worst of all: bullies. I soon came to realize that either the books and movies were wrong, or that Highland is just a uniquely exceptional school. I’m willing to bet that both are true, but I am certain that Highland is truly a school like no other.

The clubs that are available to me through the school allow me to expand my views and talents, especially through art, music, and civic discussion. Through our school’s National Art Honor Society, of which I am the President, and the administration’s continued support of the art department, I have the ability to show my creativity and lead a group of incredibly talented young adults in cultivating their artistic abilities and revealing those to the community. It is an incredibly rewarding experience to see the school’s support of the arts, especially at our annual Art Show, but also throughout the year at competitions and community
