April 18, 2018 Art can be defined and expressed in many different ways. It’s hard to pin point just one way to describe what art really is. It can come in many different forms such as paintings, sculptures, photography, dancing, singing and so many other forms. Art is also very controversial; our interpretations are all unique in our own ways. Today, let’s take a look at a piece of art history that today is a much known monument in America, The Statue of Liberty. I have a chosen this piece because I have lived in New York almost all my life and I realized I have no knowledge of this piece. Today I want to aim to answer several of important questions to help myself analyze and understand the history of the Statue of Liberty.

Moreover, it used 125 tons of steel and 31 tons of copper to completion (Landau, 17). Initially, the Statue was constructed with iron rods which were later replaced with stainless steel. The original iron armature bars were replaced with stainless steel bars as they are highly prone to rust. Concrete was used in making the base of the statue. The foundation, on the other hand, is approximately 53 feet deep and contains l-shaped metal beams. It is critical to note that bronze and stone were not used in making the Statue as they are heavy and the transportation to New York would be more expensive and cumbersome. At the foot of the Statue are broken chains which symbolize domination and dictatorship. Employees refurbished holes in the overlapping copper plate and scrubbed paint from the inner part of the copper skin. Over the years, the flame and upper part of the torch gets destroyed by water; however, it is continuously replaced with a replica of the original torch by
