There have been many advances in the field of medicine throughout this last century. Scientists have developed new treatments, therapies, and drugs that can fight, alleviate, and in some instances cure certain diseases. From the information I have obtained from this research, scientists are now looking towards stem cells to provide them with their biggest breakthrough yet. Stem cell research has provided the medical community with brand new ways to battle diseases that were once thought to be untreatable. In the past, scientists’ main concern was finding a way to overcome impossible circumstances when it came to dealing with certain illnesses. Many of the avenues that scientists would undertake in their research would lead them to more questions rather than definite answers on how to treat these diseases. Once scientists began to manipulate stem cells and realized the potential that they have in finding possible cures for incurable diseases, research on them has skyrocketed at a breakneck pace. Although scientists have made a lot of advancements in the field of stem cell research, it has not been without its problems. Moral and ethical issues have been raised throughout the entirety of this research as to where scientists are …show more content…
Stem cells have the ability to replicate themselves and produce certain types of cells that could ultimately continue to regenerate for an infinite amount of time. That means that stem cells could be used to create all types of tissues, organs, etc…, that the body may potentially need if it is succumbing to a potentially life threatening illness. Stem cells that are currently being studied for treatment purposes can be classified into four main categories: Adult Stem Cells, Fetal Stem Cells, Embryonic Stem Cells, and induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS)
