Over the past few years, there have been countless advances through medical science to better the quality of life for various illnesses, with each advance or experiment having people who approve and disapprove of the needs or ways of each. Stem Cell research is no exception. Stem Cell research has been scolded and rooted for, back and forth, for various different reasons, whether it be a person’s religion, their idea of pro-choice, pro-life, or various other things that decide which side of the fence they are on. I, myself, am on the side that appreciates and supports the idea, considering it can better the quality of so many lives, as well as considering the fact that when taken and used in science labs, each stem cell is donated by the donor’s own choice, and that the stem cell is not yet an infant or unborn child according to my beliefs. Though some people may tend to think of the possibly negative side of Stem Cell research, they fail to realize the benefits that thousands of people have gained from this medical epiphany. Stem Cell research is used to treat various different diseases due to the virtual limitless ability of the embryonic stem cell, which form into what scientist call “unspecialized” or “undifferentiated” cells that do not have a specific function yet, but can grow into a number of …show more content…
According to the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the embryos that are received are a mere 4 to 5 days into the development process. Therefore, the embryos that are donated, with explicit donor consent, to science are not yet formed children. Since the cells that the researchers receive to work on are needed to be so young, the embryonic cells are yet to have formed any heartbeat until around week 5 of the pregnancy. There is no heartbeat. There are no limbs. There are no nerves. There is no child. It is simply a cell inside of the woman’s
