It was also determined that prehensile tailed platyrrhines had more pronounced and convex articular surface curvatures. Greater contour curvatures on intervertebral articular surfaces are associated with an increased range of flexibility and mobility of the caudal vertebrae, benefiting prehensile primates that use their tails in a variety of complex movements. Hence, through analyses of the morphology of caudal vertebrae, specifically their articular surface area and curvature, it was concluded prehensile and non-prehensile tails could be distinguished according to these structural features. Both of these characteristics relate to effective use of the tail during locomotion. This article is useful towards my GEM as it describes differences in bone structure of the tails of prehensile and non-prehensile primates, and explains the reasons that certain variations confer advantages to prehensile tail

The journal consists of Quincy Thaxter’s work regime and his neighborhood youth, along with his attendance at a nearby school. At this point in time, boys aged ten to fifteen constituted about one-fifth of the local colonial workforce. Quincy Thaxter’s journal is only one boy’s account of his schedule dealing with work and study, as well as the employment of boys and men on his father’s farm. Although Quincy went to classes for more than the standard quarter, his overall attendance was in line with his former schooling to the agricultural calendar. In context with Thaxter’s Journal, the objectives of the antebellum Common School reformers to regularize attendance and extend the academic year could be quite revolutionary.
Convention holds that the best candidate for the people should win, but in the article written by Ellis Cose, it appears this election is more about fallacy rather than of policy. The name of the Ellis Cose article is what the revolution was for: The generations are at war in Newark’s mayoral race, as a civil-rights veteran fends off a beneficiary of the movement’s fruits. The main two figures of the article are two candidates named Cory Booker and Sharpe James, who are both running for the same mayor’s position of Newark. The essay serves to enlighten reads on the following about Cose’s article: what does it say, how does it say it, and what is the evidence.

Just by this one sentence, you already have a visual of what the T-rex looks like. The authors obviously have different ways to create an image in your head. They both put effort in describing the animals in detail, they put the picture of the animal and the animal actions in your

Whenever the public hears about the use of bioengineering and its involvement in modern technological advances, it is portrayed in a beneficial manner that encourages progress in society. However, the wide variety of usages that it allows leaves an unfathomable amount of possibilities for people to bring harm to others. Biotechnology is most prominently used in the creation of bioweaponry, which has been the medium of many terroristic attacks worldwide. This idea is followed closely in Quantico by Greg Bear, a story in which we follow the lives of FBI agents at Quantico, an FBI research center, as they try to stop a bioterrorist from committing heinous acts in Saudi Arabia. The book mostly tracks the story of Rebecca, a bioterrorism specialist
After reading 2016 Newbery Acceptance by Matt de la Peña, I concluded that the article is about the lack of diverse representation within novels. I agree with what he says because a lot of books and many articles lack attention to diversity. If you look at most books, you will see majorly white main characters and a black side character if we’re lucky. He expresses this in a way that shows a new lens on how diversity isn’t shown enough in books. “I cringed and told her, “Actually, ma’am, most of my books are about not feeling Mexican enough.”
In the book about John Smith’s “General history of Virginia, New England, and Summer Isles”, I found the journal interesting. The way Smith wrote in third person instead of first is different from most journals published. Smith’s work later on in the journal, reflects on someone else’s viewpoint on his life and reputation and I like that he used different sides to write about. Lastly, his journal showed the history that happened during that time period, such as the Indians, his life, Procantas, and Christianity. One thing I disliked about Smith’s work is the writing style he writes in.
Making it seem closer to that of the Paranthropus genera. The skull also gives us incite to how
Both articles were well written and provide an overview of piracy as well as an argument for people’s motive for becoming pirates. In my opinion, Rediker’s argument was stronger than Bialuschewski’s as he went more in depth into the issue or piracy as well as their way of life. Redikers’ use of primary sources and quotations also helped to validate his argument. Marcus Rediker’s Article Analysis: Marcus Rediker’s main argument throughout the article was that piracy was an attractive life for many people during the 1700’s. He argues that there were several motivations to becoming a pirate, including the hope of attaining wealth, escaping poor living conditions, the freedom of choice, and escaping previous lives.1
In the third chapter of Nudge, Sunstein and Thaler elaborate on a psychological phenomenon known as priming. Priming is defined as any action that provides subtle influences that can increase the ease with which certain information comes to mind or elicits an action. Believe it or not, priming is a big factor in our everyday lives. For example, let’s say you are shopping for the latest Apple product at the Apple Store, but you noticed that the line at the cash-register was excessively long, so you decide to shop elsewhere for this product. However, right when you start to walk out the door, a sales associate stops you and tells you that there are only five left of the product you are looking for at the current price.
He had a vast collection of fossils that he would share with those he taught (Chamberlain). He was not the first to discover dinosaur bones, but was the first to research and name them scientifically. No specific question led to the discovery of the Megalosaurus, but rather a curiosity and passion about researching
