Imagine you are being ripped away from your family and friends and then put into an arena. This is the experiences that tributes face in the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, this has changed someone named Katniss Everdeen in multiple ways. Even though Katniss won the games she suffered many negative effects. Katniss has severe anxiety after the games and Katniss becomes depressed and traumatized by all the deaths she has seen or done. One example that Katniss has been negatively affected is when Katniss has anxiety. On chapter 13, page 172, paragraph 1 it says, “My first impulse is to scramble from the tree, but I am belted in. It says, “For a moment, I sit there, watching my tears drip down on her face, Rue’s cannon fires. I lean forward and press my lips against her temple. Slowly, as if not to wake her, I lay her head back on the ground and release her hand.” This shows how depressing it is to lose a fellow ally and watch them die in your arms. A 3rd example is in chapter 17, page 232, paragraph 5 it shows how traumatized she is. It states, “When I break into the clearing, she’s on the ground, hopelessly entangled in a net, she just has time to reach her hand though the mesh and say my name before the speak enters her body.” This shows how traumatized she is because she realized that it was too late, that she could not help Rue. Some may argue that Katniss was positively impacted because it made her stronger. However, Katniss shows anxiety after the games, chapter 27, page 372 it says, “Peeta’s so pale and still on a silver table, tubes and wires springing out of him every which way, and for a moment I forget we’re out of the Games and I see the doctors as just one more threat, one more pack of mutts designed to kill him. Petrified, I lunge for him, but I’m caught and thrust back into another room, and a glass door seals between us.
