The mindset of people in different cultures is different because they all grew up separately, learning their own socially acceptable behaviors, their own languages, their own ideals, and their own beliefs, this makes communication between two or more cultures difficult. If two or more people do not speak the same language, then the communication between those people is greatly hindered. Stereotypes and prejudices are likely learned through the way a person is raised and would likely cause a person to communicate differently with someone they believe a stereotype about or have prejudices towards. All kinds of subtle differences such as body language and perception of what is and not polite may differ greatly between people from different cultures. Ethnocentrism divides cultures and creates perceptions and prejudices against other cultures. Cultures across the world differ in many ways which hinder cross-communication between cultures, ways such as the language they speak, the prejudices they have, the ways they behave, and perhaps their belief in ethnocentrism. Other cultures are evaluated using the in-group’s culture as the standard and if the culture being evaluated is similar then it is good and if the culture is dissimilar to the in-group’s culture then it bad.
